Melbourne police search for pair who fled scene after man killed in city's south-east

Police are searching for two men who fled a fatal dispute in Ormond, in Melbourne's south-east. 

Two men were found injured outside a house on North Road about 1am on Sunday.

Police say one man died at the scene.

He had yet to be formally identified.

Another man aged in his 30s was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Homicide Squad was called as detectives cordoned off North Road, with several vehicles parked across the busy thoroughfare.

The ABC understands the drivers of those vehicles had stopped to try to help the men.

A number of items were scattered across the footpath and road including a suitcase and clothing.

Police believe two other men fled the scene.

They said they were working to find the pair and believed all the men were known to each other.

Neighbour Kim Pidgeon says he'd often say hello to the men who lived in the house.(ABC News)

North Road remained closed as the investigation continued on Sunday morning.

Neighbour Kim Pidgeon said there were up to 10 people socialising at the house last night.

He said they often had small parties in front yard with music, but did not cause any trouble.

"It's just a shock, it's scary, it's next door to us, a few feet away," Mr Pidgeon said.

"They seem pretty friendly and we walk past and wave."

SES volunteers have combed the surrounding streets helping police search for evidence.(ABC News)

North Road remained closed as the investigation continued on Sunday morning.
