Tickford Racing star Cam Waters has scored his first top 20 finish in just his second NASCAR Truck Series race, which ended with a confrontation from a rival on pit road.

The Tickford Racing driver raced to 19th in his second appearance in the NASCAR Truck Series on Sunday (AEST) at Kansas Speedway.

The multi-time Supercars race winner was confronted by fellow Ford driver Layne Riggs after the race, which was won by Toyota driver Corey Heim.

On the final lap, Waters and Riggs came together, with replays showing the former getting loose. Both Fords finished the race, Riggs 18th and Waters 19th.

After the race, Waters approached Riggs, seemingly to apologise. Riggs, however, appeared frustrated by the incident.

Earlier, Waters qualified #66 ThorSport Ford F-150 in 20th, having set the 22nd best time in practice.

Waters sat 20th when an early caution was called after Ty Majeski hit the wall at Turn 1 after a left-front tyre failure.

Chase Purdy took the lead on the restart, with Waters dropping to 27th position before climbing back through the field.

Heim claimed Stage 1 honours, with Waters 26th after all drivers pitted in the break. Zane Smith won Stage 2, with Waters driving back into the top 20.

Waters was 18th when the field commenced Stage 3, before dropping to 25th. With 30 laps to go, Waters was 25th, with Heim leading over Smith.

With 10 laps to go, Waters had worked his way back to 19th, where he finished despite contact with Riggs, who was classified 18th.
