The Raiders displayed their true DNA in their come from behind win over the Sea Eagles on Friday night.

That is according to coach Ricky Stuart, who called it "one hell of a win," just five days after their were humiliated 40-nil by the Sharks.

Canberra were down 20-0 half an hour into the game at 4 Pines Park and it looked like the floodgates were about to open.

But Stuart, as he revealed in his post-game press conference, never lost faith.

"That's the Raiders' DNA," he said.

"How we performed last week wasn't us. We had a choice this week to show what our real DNA is and that was one hell of a win.

"It's very easy to be positive now... (But) ask people what we spoke about in the change rooms at half time, there was no way we were out of that game.

"When I walked out of that shed at half time I knew we were still a chance to be in this game at the back end.

"I thought so much went against us in the first half and when I explained that to the players, I think I drew a picture that said 'if you guys have the same application in regards to your effort and energy in the second half as you did in the first half will be in this in the back end of the game'."

Leading the way in more ways than one was skipper Elliott Whitehead, who made his long-awaited return from a calf injury.

"He was incredible. You can't replace his experience on the edge, he's been there and done it all," Hudson Young told Fox League post-game.

The 34-year-old celebrated it with a flick pass to set up the Raiders' first try and two tries of his own within five minutes.

But it was his contribution off the field that impressed the coach the most.

"He doesn't want to get a rap, but having Elliott back, he played one of his best games tonight that I've seen him play," Stuart said.

"It's not just his two tries but his leadership, his contribution in meetings this week.

"We missed three or four of our senior players last week and he was massive this week. He was as good off the field in our preparation as he was on it."
