A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) is carrying out an evaluation visit to Austria from 2 to 6 October 2023. This visit is one of the steps in the 1st thematic evaluation round to monitor the implementation by Austria of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The 1st thematic evaluation round aims to address how national laws and policies in State Parties build trust, deliver support, and provide access to justice for women victims of violence, based on the questionnaire adopted by GREVIO on 13 October 2022.

The GREVIO delegation will carry out a series of meetings with representatives from different ministries and public bodies, including the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, the Court of Audit, the Ombud for Equal Treatment, the Ombudsperson Board, the Vienna Municipality, and the regional authorities of Tyrol. In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with national human rights institutions and representatives of non-governmental organisations and civil society working to prevent and combat violence against women.

GREVIO plans to publish its first thematic evaluation report on Austria during 2024.
