FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —

Move over Drake Maye, you're not the only quarterback drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Patriots used their late sixth-round pick to select Joe Milton III, a quarterback from the University of Tennessee, a developmental quarterback with a high ceiling.

The 6 foot 5, 245 pound 24-year-old quarterback has shown flashes of brilliance, particularly with his deep ball accuracy and mobility within the pocket, but will need to refine his mechanics and processing to maximize his potential.

Milton was picked just six spots ahead of where future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady was selected in the 2000 NFL Draft.

ESPN's Mike Reiss suggested that Milton could be converted to play a different position such as tight end, citing The Athletic's pre-draft scouting report by Dane Brugler.

The Patriots entered the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft with five picks, with their focus remaining on the offensive side of the ball.

They used their first fourth-round pick to select guard Layden Robinson from Texas A&M, who describes himself as a grinder. "Just go in there and be tough, be gritty and go after people over and over again."

The Patriots also added another wide-receiver to their roster. Javon Baker, out of Central Florida, said fans should "bring your popcorn" when he makes his debut.

The sole pick made by the Patriots on defense came in the sixth round, when they selected cornerback Marcellas Dial out of South Carolina.
