MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Welcome to Wawa. Those words were said for the first time in the state of Alabama as the store officially opened its first store in the state. The store is located on Greeno Road in Fairhope and after years of being a staple in the northeast, Alabama now gets the chance to enjoy all it has to offer. "I actually lived in Deltona, Florida which is around Orlando, so I had lots of Wawa's. When I moved back home here, I was like, 'no Wawa' but Wawa followed me here. So, it's great to hear," Jordan Callaway said. Callaway made the first purchase Thursday morning. And as someone who lives three minutes away, he couldn't miss this. "That's pretty big. The first sale at Wawa in the whole state of Alabama. That's a pretty big deal. I think I'm going to be bragging about it for years to come," Callaway said. While the store officially opened at 8 a.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held a 10. Local officials along with the President of Wawa were here for the celebration. And Wawa is giving back. The store is partnering with Prodisee Pantry and wawa's committed to donating a portion of hoagie sales at the Fairhope location as part of "the lending a helping hoagie" program.
