Storms increase tomorrow morning, heavy rain and severe storms possible

Original source (on modern site)

A line of storms is currently moving across southeastern Texas tonight, producing very heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. This activity will slowly work southeastward overnight tonight, arriving across Acadiana tomorrow morning.

The timing of this complex of storms is important, especially to school districts deciding what to do for tomorrow. Unfortunately, models are not helping us with that. The most recent high-resolution models have now sped things up, having the complex moving through the heart of Acadiana between 6-8am again. This is when it takes a little bit of experience as a meteorologist since models are not giving us much confidence. It seems in these scenarios, especially when models are struggling with timing, these complexes always come in faster than what model guidance is suggesting. I usually subtract about two hours from what most models are showing, meaning if models have storms rolling through your location around 9am, prepare for them as early as 7am. It's the best way to make your plans. Very rarely do storms go slower than what model guidance is showing. Forward momentum always wins, especially with complexes producing strong winds, like this one likely will.

Acadiana is under a level two risk of severe storms tomorrow morning with damaging winds and tornadoes the main threats to watch out for. Some very heavy rainfall could be possible, especially across southwestern Louisiana, where rainfall totals of 3-5 inches could be possible, with isolated higher amounts.

We get a break for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, but another round of storms is possible on Tuesday.

Isolated rain remains in the forecast through the rest of the week with warm temperatures, as highs reach the mid-80s each afternoon.
